The Nostalgia Gassers, having recently experienced a growth spurt in the Denver area, were invited to participate in a very different type of meet at the Bandimere Speedway. Since we were the new group on the block, we didn’t really know how we would be received or what to expect. Those concerns were soon put to rest as we were warmly greeted by members of the Flathead and Inliner organizations.
It seems nostalgia racing, regardless of the type of car you love, has an instant bonding affect on all who participate. These two well established groups welcomed us as if we were long lost friends and they were unbelievably gracious and sharing.
Since we had participants showing up from three different states, many of whom had never been on a program together; it would have been difficult to put on a professional showing if it weren’t for our new friends. They helped us with pit positions, took care of setting the run ladder, shared vender bags and even invited us to their cookout. And, as if that weren’t enough, they shared trophies, prize monies and, get this, even gave some gas cash to the folks who traveled the furthest. We can’t thank them enough.
Lesson learned? Nostalgia events like this are just as much about the people as they are about the cars. With that said, the racing was a blast too.
