I-57 and Cordova

The I-57 race in Benton, Ill was canceled due to weather conditions. Scott Bailey called and updated the Gassers that the race was canceled. I thanked him for the call. He said that is going to try to work out a reschedule date and would let me know. Hopefully we will be open and can race at the event. The guys that were scheduled to race at the I-57 track was Ken Kapper,Doug Jent, Jeff Hobgood, Roger Brown, Mark Campbell, The Crude Team,Tom Cray, and Bob Mitchell. Thanks Guys.

At the Door Wars event in Cordova Raceway Park, Bryan Huffman and Mike Hoffman arrived on Friday. We had great parking spots by the trees, next to the staging lanes. Arriving on Saturday was Jesse James, Gary and Brian Blasey, Bill Wamboldt, Ted Beach, Brandon Beach and Ron Norman. We all had our cars inspected and had them all backed in for the spectators to enjoy. At about 1:15 PM we made our first pass of the day. Everybody ran great. When we got back to our spots Ron Norman discovered a blown head gasket. Unfortunately he was done for the day. In about an hour we made another run and looked great. Because of the great expectation of rain, the racers and the crowd were down. After our second run we had our lunch, with plenty of good food as usual. Thanks Bertie James for heading up the food. We had a special treat with Tire Monkey-Mark, a birthday cake with Tire Monkey written on the cake, and a happy birthday song. Shortly after this it started to rain. We hung out for a while and then the race was called. Not all bad. We hung out with our Gasser friends, made a couple of runs and had a great lunch and Birthday cake!
See Ya at the races.

Spring Nostalgia Event at Central Illinois Dragway in Havana, Illinois

May 24, 2014
Spring Nostalgia Event at Central Illinois Dragway in Havana, Illinois.

Wow! What a great start to our drag racing season. The weather was fantastic.
There were five racers that arrived at the track on Friday. Mark Campbell–
Roger Brown—Ken Kapper—Bryan Huffman and Doug Jent. We all made a
test pass to warm the crowd up. It worked!

On Saturday morning, the Crude Team—Bill Wamboldt—The Blasey Team
and Tom Cray arrived. We had 9 cars, so a 1955 Pontiac with a straight axle
and correct wheels was invited to run with us. He made a couple of passes
with the group. Tom Cray’s car broke in the afternoon, so we invited a straight
axle 57 Chevy wagon to run with us. It was metalflake green with a blown big
block in it. Way cool! We made several runs and came down the return road once,
in front of the stands. Everyone in the stands were waving and clapping. The
stands on both sides of the track were packed. During the day we sold many
Nostalgia Gassers t-shirts. We handed out lots of Hero cards and had a lot of
kids getting their cards signed and getting their pictures taken in the race cars.
We had a great lunch with tons of food in the afternoon. The gray button up
shirts really looked good in the staging lanes. All in all, it was a perfect race
weekend with lots of passes and a great track and facility.

Havana Fall Nostalgia Event

The Huffman team arrived at about 1pm on Friday, September the 6th. We were welcomed at the gate and then escorted to our pit spots for the group.

The pits were already filling up rapidly. Later that afternoon Roger Brown came in to join us in the pits. We had to keep a sharp eye out to keep the rest of our pit spots, because it turned out to be a very large event with lots of racers.

On Saturday we were joined by Steve Bacon, Ken Kapper, Gary and Brian Blazey, and Ted and Brandon Beach and Tom Cray. The temperature was hot, but it did not stop a great event. Some of our cars made afternoon time runs. On Saturday evening the group made our first pass early in the show. Roger Brown’s Anglia wasn’t running quite right, and with just about everyone’s help, it came around and was running good. During the show one of the wheelstanders ended up on the guard rail after loosing control and taking out a light pole also. Ted Beach to the rescue! Ted had hauled his 58 Chevy down on his rollback truck. He went into action and like the pro that he is he had the car safely off the guard rail in quick time. Thanks to Ted and his rollback the races restarted after some clean up. We made our second pass and the crowd was cheering for all of us. It was about 11:30 pm when we completed our 2nd pass, so we were done for the evening, with several classes still to finish eliminations. About 1:30am it started raining shutting the event down. All in all, we all had great runs with great fan support and it was another great event with the Nostalgia Gassers Racing Association.
