Columbus OHIO Goodguys race report 7/12/13

Ron Doran and Randy Ball had their Willys gassers on display at the fairgrounds on Thursday and Friday morning, then they hauled over to the Nationals Trails drag strip on Friday afternoon for the Friday Night Drags.

I was first to arrive,and I was greeted by Donnie Irwin from NHRA and the Goodguys. I was followed by Roger Brown, The Woodman and Hot Rod Holly, Ron Doran and Randy Ball were right behind us.Last to arrive was our newest Nostalgia Gasser member Scott Yust from Cincinnati. He brought along his wife, Dad and his brother. It is great to have Scott racing with us again.He has installed a new motor in his Blue Tango Henry J and was ready to test it out.

We got the “Rock Star” pit spots right next to the staging lanes. The place started to fill up with race cars in the afternoon.The spectators started to file in around 5pm. We were given a chance to make a time run around 5pm.
We started the Race program with our first pass at 6:30.The track was in excellent condition.
The program went real smooth with our last pass of the evening at 10pm. We had fans stop by our pits for pictures in the race cars and to pick up Hero cards and have the drivers sign them all evening long.We met some great fans and made some new friends.

A special thanks goes out to Kathy and Ron Doran for making sure everyone had a great time.
Their hospitality was outstanding.Kathy did a great job of keeping everything in the group organized and informed about the event.

We had a great time and are looking forward to next years event with the Goodguys at Columbus.

Busy July

The Nostalgia Gassers Racing Association is getting ready for a very busy July. 6 Gassers are headed to National Trails raceway in Columbus Ohio on Friday for the Goodguys Friday night drags on July 12th.We are looking forward to racing with the Goodguys Vintage Drag racing program again.

Then 8 of us are off to Cedar Falls raceway in Cedar Falls Iowa for the Night of Fire race on Saturday July 20th.
If you have ever been to this event,then you know what a fun time it is.The stands are always over filled and the fans are 6 deep at the fence to watch the gassers put on a great show.Cedar Falls is a great race track and the staff does an outstanding job of putting on a great program.

The rest of the group will be at the Meltdowns Drags in Bryon IL on Saturday July 20th and Sunday July 21st.
If you love old school vintage drag racing,the Meltdowns is the place to be.
On sunday will will be having the 2nd annual Gasser Shootout with the Great Lakes Gassers.
The Nostalgia gassers won the event last year,so I am sure the Great Lakes Gassers will be out of revenge!
The Great Lakes Gassers are a great group of Gasser racers with some awesome cars .We are looking forward to a rematch.

The next event is Saturday July 27 at Rock Chevy in Grayslake IL for a static display.
Stop on buy and pick up a new Hero card,have the guys autograph it for you and get your picture taken in one of the race cars.

It is going to be a busy July.Hope to see you at one of the events.

Sat. June 8. 2013 Cordova Dragway Door Warz

The Nostaglia Gassers were one of the feature exhibition groups at the Cordova Dragway Door Warz event on Saturday 6/8/13. We arrived at 10:30 am with the Honkin Willys coupe and the Hairy Hauler Willys pick up truck and were greeted by the friendly staff at the Cordova Dragway. We got registered and then escorted to our pit parking spaces. Did I mention that our pit spaces were at the very front of the track? We had electric hook ups and we were right next to the staging lanes! We felt like Royalty!

Scott and Laura Gardner and the staff at Cordova really take good care of us! THANK YOU!!!!
Byran Huffman and Steve Bacon arrived on Friday. We were follow in on Saturday by The Blaseys,Randy Tavoletti, The Crude Crew and Bill Wambolt and Ted Beech. There were 8 total gassers from the group.

As soon as we were all in place, Dan Hicks from Nostalgia Drag World (www.nostalgiadragworld.com) magazine showed up and asked to take a group picture for their on line magazine. I thought to myself “Does it get any better than this”?

Then the fans found our pit spots and the pictures, signing of Hero cards and letting the fans sit in the race cars started. Everyone had a great time. We met alot of new fans,and some returning from last year to see us race again.

We were called to the lanes around 3pm for our first pass.this was an optional pass. All of the Gassers made the run. Around 5pm we started our famous group cookout. Just as Red Light Randy T was about done cooking the italian sauages,we got called to the lanes for the start of the program. Dinner had to wait a few minutes! We all made a run at 6pm and headed back for some great food!

Our next pass was at 7pm.The Crude crew pulled off a 9.24et. They had that little Anglia flying! Danny even had to pull the parachute! We made our last pass of the evening at 8:30. Everyone was loaded up and ready to head out by 9pm.

It was another great event at the Cordova Dragway.
Good friends,good racing and good food. Does it get any better than this????

Our next event is at the Goodguys Friday night drags in Columbus Ohio July 12th. Come on out,visit with the group and have a great time! Hope to see you there.

Off to a Damp Start

The Nostalgia Gassers 2013 season got off to a wet start. Mother Nature was not kind to us. The spring nostalgia event at Havana Dragway on May 25th was rained out. That did not dampen our spirits, we’re now getting ready for the June 8th event,

The Nostalgia Gassers are heading to Cordova IL this weekend Saturday June 8th with 8 Gassers for the Door Warz event. Event details www.cordovadrag.com

We are all looking forward to getting back on the track and meeting up with some old friends and making some new ones. Feel free to stop by the pits and pick up one of our new Hero cards and have the drivers autograph one for you! Also get your picture taken in your favorite gasser.

Kick Off Event

The Nostalgia Gassers Racing Association is heading to Havana IL on Saturday May 25 with 10 Gassers to help kick off the Spring nostalgia event at the Central Illinois Dragway.

This is the first of many events this year for the Nostalgia Gassers Racing Association. Come on out and enjoy Nostalgia drag racing at its finest. Stop by the pits and say Hi, check out all the Gassers, sit in the cars and have your picture taken, pick up one of our new hero cards and have the racers autograph one for you!
